Prostate cancer as sexually transmitted disease?

The Scientist reports:
Prostate cancer is increasingly looking like an infectious disease, and may be sexually transmitted Mounting evidence suggests that prostate cancer is an infectious disease caused by a recently identified virus. The latest report, published today (September 7) in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found the virus was associated especially with aggressive prostate cancers [. . .] The suspect is xenotropic murine leukemia-related virus (XMRV), a gammaretrovirus similar to viruses known to cause cancer in animals.
A few people have attempted to use black-white differences in prostate cancer risk as evidence in favor of black-white differences in androgen exposure. This was always a backward and circular argument (prostate cancer researchers were responsible for the attempts to demonstrate higher androgen levels in black males in the first place). Various factors may contribute to elevated black prostate cancer risk (e.g., higher estrogen levels and genetic differences unrelated to androgen pathways), but this is probably a big one. Promiscuity is associated with prostate cancer in African-American men.

  2. n/a,

Do you know if Steve Sailer is half-Jewish?

I've asked around, including Sailer himself through the comments at his blog, but haven't gotten an answer.

    _

I think it is more speculation than reality since Steve himself doesn't even know for sure, since he was adopted.

Tell ya the truth, wouldn't be suprized if even he or his people floated the rumor for a little extra 'insurance policy', you know, so he can't be called 'racist' or something.

  4. A while back on his old site, I think he may have speculated that he might be partially Jewish. That's all I recall, speculation, and I'm not even sure if he was even half serious. I certainly don't remember him saying anything definitive.

It seems that certain commenters like 'The Undiscovered Jew' love to go around HBD sites and aggressively assert that Sailer is half-Jewish and make other such claims in order to attack anyone who refuses to bend over to Jews and dares to criticize them.

Yup, just as I claimed, some of his 'admirers' are using him for their own agendas.

Since some claim that Steve-O is the 'Grandaddy' of HBD, and since HBD has been hijacked by Jewish Zionist supremacists looking to, well, 'rationalize' their supremacism, it stands to reason that they will invoke Sailer as 'one of them', even indirectly.

Want to see an interesting debate on this, check out where this 'HBDer' thinks the jews are supposedly soooo 'superior' to 'gentiles' -

'The Undiscovered Jew' is at it again -

"You "counter"-semites realize that the HBD blogfather himself is half-Jewish (and says he was quite philo-semitic in an earlier phase in his life), right?"

What a weasel. Can't even let Steve-O speak for himself!

  7. Since some claim that Steve-O is the 'Grandaddy' of HBD,

If that's a reference to me, the phrase I used is "...of internet HBD." Obviously human biodiversity existed, mattered and was noted to exist and matter long before Steve Sailer said anything about it. But Sailer was probably the first to popularize using the facts of HBD as a conceptual tool for analyzing and commenting on social trends and policies in a manner not overwhelmingly political or polemical. That approach has spawned a number of imitators so the term "granddaddy" would seem to apply.

  8. Anon:"Do you know if Steve Sailer is half-Jewish?"

Sailer has speculated that he may be PARTIALLY Jewish, though he doesn't know if he is fully half or not. He was adopted if memory serves correctly.

  9. I know this is a little off topic, but wouldn't this theory be easy to test? Couldn't you just look at the incidence of prostate cancer in Catholic priests?

  10. Halvorson,

    Interesting thought.

Catholic priests include a significant fraction of homosexuals and are not 100% celibate as a population, but:

Prostate cancer mortality among Catholic priests: "Twelve deaths from prostatic cancer were observed while 19.8 were expected. This represents a mortality experience significantly less than that of the general noncelibate population."

The evidence linking prostate cancer and sexual is strong. Another recent example: "those with a past trichomonas infection were two to three times more likely to develop an aggressive and potentially life-threatening form of prostate cancer". Trichomoniasis prevalence is much higher among blacks.
